General Notes

Shop numbers in The Parade

The addresses of the shops have changed over time. The current numbering is from the station end of the road i.e. ascending odd numbers from Lloyds Pharmacy to Quickstep on the south side of the road and ascending even numbers from Brittons to Kongs on the north side. This means that Paws Etc. is at 65 The Parade and Costa is at 67. These were occupied for many decades by Arthur Shortland outfitters.
In Kelly's Directory of 1939 Shortlands address is given as 2 and 3 The Parade. Therefore the shops in The Parade appear to have been numbered at that time from the Marlow end. The entries in the directory have shops as being either "The Parade" (the south side of the road) or, the then new, Royalty Parade (the north side of the road).
