BEBOPS How to Create a Page
This page gives information how to create a new page and information on editing the page
Creating a Page
Choosing a page name
Before creating a page think about the name it will be given. It has to be unique and it should be clear from the name what the page is about. If you are unsure do some searches and look at the section that lists results for matching page names for some examples.
Create Page from Calling Page
A new page can be created by 2 methods. Typically a new page will be called from an existing page e.g. the page for "The Parade" is called from the "Street Information" Page.
Before creating the page do a search to ensure it does not already exist. If it does a new page should not be created but you should edit the existing page.
To do this you can create the link to the called page in the calling page (e.g. the link to "The Parade" was created in the page "Street Information" without the page "The Parade" existing. Then you can follow the link to the (non-existent) new page and this will create it and take you to the editing page. This sounds a bit strange but it is the easiest way to create a new page.
To find out how to create the link on the calling page go to BEBOPS How to Insert a Table into a Page
Once this is done and you are at the editing page for the new page continue reading below for information on page editing.
Create an unlinked Page
This is less likely to be needed as the vast majority of pages should be created as being linked to from an existing page. However sometimes it is needed e.g. the first page in the hierarchy of How To pages was created un-linked and standalone.
To create an unlinked page do a search for the page name that you are about to create. It should return saying no pages exist with that name but it will also provide a link to create the page. Follow the link and you will be taken to the screen to start editing your new page.
Sections of a Page
Many pages will be to document information about a location which may be a residential address, a retail outlet, business premises etc. For how to do this follow the link to BEBOPS How to Structure a Location Page
If your new page is not a Location Page then look for similar pages to see how the date is structured within them. Typically a page will contain some or all of these sections
- Link back to the calling page
- Overview/Introduction
- Photo or photo gallery
- Detailed information
Section headings
At the top of the editing page there is a ribbon similar to that seen in word processor apps link LibreOffice, OpenOffice and Microsoft Word. Click on the more (...) at the right end of the ribbon and a second ribbon will appear below it. In this ribbon you can select the type of formatting you want. It is defaulted to "Paragraph" and can be changed to levels of heading (just like when word processing). Selecting the different options will format your heading as below. Select the heading format you want before typing your text, When you press Enter after typing your heading the format will return to Paragraph.
This is Heading 1
This is Heading 2
This is Heading 3
This is Heading 4
This is Heading 5
This is Heading 6 - the lowest level
When you insert headings into a page it will automatically create an index of headings at the top of the page.
